urban curtain hunt

The Urban Outfitters interiors selection has really been impressing me lately. A lot of their designs are beautiful and  modern and won't break the bank. I'm having a really hard time picking new curtains for my living room {currently I'm rocking some very boring/cheapo white Ikea ones} and am loving the idea of getting a fun pair from Urban. Curtains are a great way to express your style and mix up your space in an affordable way. I'm torn between the ruffle and chevron designs as most of my studio is white and rather plain. Once I decide I will post some photos and see what you think!

Urban's online apartment section also has great duvets, knobs, rugs and holiday gifts for the home.

5 reasons to love the pearl

photos by the pearl hotel

If you haven't had the chance to visit the Pearl Hotel this century, you are missing out. This mid-century throwback hotel's old-school California charm is infectious. The decor is beautiful and the energy makes you feel like you are at a fabulous Hollywood hotel in the 50's. Unique things are always going down at the hotel and if you are an out-of-towner it would surely be a fun place to stay.
5 reasons why we love it:
    1. The dive-in theater: New and old flicks are projected on a giant screen over their pool on Wednesday nights. You can wine & dine around or in the pool with friends while watching a movie. Good way to break up your weekdays. And it's free!
    2. Sunday Brunch: Their brunch menu is hearty and includes a bottomless mimosa option (obviously you know by now those get us every time). You can then lounge around their pool after eating and feel amazing in your bathing suit :)
    3. The beautiful decor and mid-century design (check out their bathroom!)
    4. Wallet-saver deals: Includes buy one get one free coupons, happy hours and free birthday meals.
    5. They have cabana areas for groups of 6 or more. One of my favorite birthday party locations.
If you know of any unique San Diego gems, feel free to email us as we would love to check them out and feature them on A Little Birdy Told Me.

    vintage gems

I found this really pretty 1970s Sara Moon 'Moshgan' signed painting today at Goodwill for $5 (including one ugly frame). After doing some research I found out it was one of her first pieces. I'd consider that a score! Just need to figure out how I want to frame it.

    fall style

I don't now about you, but living in the southwest, I really miss the transition between summer and fall this time of year. Growing up in the midwest, this was always such an exciting & transitional season. You get to buy new boots, jackets and sweaters, finally turn your ac off and cozy up. Here in San Diego, however, fall seems to bring with it some of the hottest months of the year. In most aspects the warm weather is a welcomed bonus, but in regards to clothes, I still want to slip into fall-festive threads.

Here are a few of my favorite Southern California-friendly & beyond fall finds.

    1. Cowel Neck Dress: Emily Ryan, Etsy 2. Red Skinny Jeans: J Brand, Anthropologie
    3. Leather Boots: Lucky Brand, Piperlime 4. Mustard Dress: H&M (in store)
    5. Cloud Blouse: Anthropologie

    a midwestern fall

So I seriously jumped the gun last week when I was bragging about how I packed everything into a carry-on. I froze the entire trip and should have packed a coat and more sweaters! Either I have forgotten how cold it gets back home in the fall or I have become a total weakling from living in southern California. Either way, the trip to Chicago and Minnesota was so much fun. I got to spend quality time with my mom, sisters and friends and finally see {and shop} Chicago as an adult. Here is a mix n' match summary of my trip in iPhone Instagram photos. Such a beautiful time of the year...
